My sports background is 17 years of classical ballet. I was introduced to Crossfit it while I was in the Army. I’m a linguistic officer in Arabic and worked with both NATO, UK, US forces – they were all Crossfitting!!
2. Have you always been geared towards the weight room or was it a transition from another sport?
Not at all, I was introduced to weights for real when I served for 2 years in the Danish army.
3. You maintain a strong background in Olympic lifting. What are your best lifts in the Snatch and Clean and Jerk.
I started Olympic lifting 2.5 years ago as a recovery after having a C-section. Fell in love right away. My best lifts in competition are snatch 73 kg // C&J 91 kg @ BW 65.4 kg – with lots of room for improvement. Just qualified for the European Championships in weightlifting in Tel-Aviv (Israel) in 2014 in the -69 kg class and hoping to qualify in the -63 kg class as well.
I compete in: CrossFit, Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting. I have a weekly template for CrossFit, weak points and skills made by one coach (5 sessions/week), a powerlifting template made by another coach (2 sessions/week), and a weightlifting template made by a third coach – the national coach (4 sessions a week). All templates are building up towards bigger lifting meets and the CrossFit Open.
As a person, I’m super organized, so every Monday, I spend an hour or 2 fitting the 3 programs to my weekly schedule (job, family etc). I get it all done each week even though it seems overwhelming each Monday…
5. Where is your current training facility and do use more than one facility to reach your goals?
I train at 3-4 facilities each week (IK99 Weightlifting Club, Butcher’s Lab, Butcher’s Garage, Copenhagen Powerlifting/The Gym, Gladsaxe CrossFit). Great energy to train with different people and different coaches!
6. How do you balance you training with your career?
Finished law school in 2002 and worked as a lawyer for 7 years. Too much work, so I switched to a legal corporate function at Maersk (shipping company, Denmark’s largest). Training so much, building a career and having a family requires lots and lots of planning each week. I always manage to balance it all with progress both in training and at work + with a happy family. My training is often very early/very late (especially CrossFit + powerlifting).
7. What are some of your best lifts, times and achievements in the sport of Crossfit
I’m not maxing very often, but here are a few:
Overhead squat 1RM: 92,5 kg
Jerk from the neck 3RM: 90 kg
Back squat 5RM: 110 kg
Bench press 2RM: 80 kg
Deadlift 5RM: 120 kg
Don’t do benchmark WODs often either, but I just did ‘Isabel’ in a competition (on day # 2) in 1:57 min. + ‘Diane’ in 4:03. I’ve been to Regionals with a team 3 times, and I’ve been to the Games (team competition) in 2009 and 2011.
8. What is your current system that you use nutritionally?
I count calories. It’s that simple. In Denmark, we eat quite healthy in general and I bicycle everywhere (+20 km each day).
9. What is your current supplement regimen?
Fish oil, ZMA, Vitamin D3
I recover really well and am used to training a lot from ballet. Biking a lot is also great recovery to me. Apart from that, I have a de-load week leading up to (bigger) meets. I compete quite a lot, so recovery is a natural part of my program.
I love going to the sauna + steam bath, but I hardly ever find the time.
